Stiffening agents are widely used in finishing decorative fabrics, especially luggage cloth, curtain cloth and warp knitted fabrics.
Stiffening agent is to form a thin film on the surface of textiles, which is formed by padding and coating the slurry made of high molecular substances on the surface of textiles. After drying, this kind of finishing slurry adheres to the surface of fabric and fiber to form a thin film, which makes the fabric have excellent stiffness and hand feeling.
Stiffening agents can be roughly divided into two categories: one is natural sizing agent, such as starch, sodium alginate, animal and vegetable glue, etc., which has low adhesion and can not be washed, also known as non-durable stiffening finishing agent; Secondly, synthetic stiffening agents, which are most commonly used in production practice, mainly include thermosetting polymers, vinyl acetate, acrylate copolymers, etc., also known as durable stiffening finishing agents, and early cyanoaldehyde resin polymers, which contain more formaldehyde and are not environmentally friendly. The finished fabrics will have obvious yellowing phenomenon and serious strength loss.
